Pakistan fails to control fruit & veg prices in Ramadan bazaars

Pakistan authorities have failed to control the price of edible items available in the Ramadan Sasta Bazaars installed in various areas of Islamabad, while the stall owners are overcharging the citizens.

According to the media reports, the district administration has failed to enforce the prices of rate list issued by the government. The stall owners are overcharging Rs5-10 on fruits, vegetables and other edible items available in Ramadan Sasta Bazaar.

The fruits and vegetable are being sold – banana at Rs140 per dozen, golden apple at Rs200 per kilogram, New Zealand apple at Rs350 per kilogram and Chinese apple at 250 per kilogram. Also good quality melon is available at Rs80 per kilogram instead of Rs60 per kilogram.

Mango is being sold at Rs120-150 per kilogram against a fixed price of Rs50-70 per kilogram in the fruit market. Papaya is being sold at Rs80 per kilogram as compared to pre Ramadan rate of Rs40 per kilogram. Peach is available at Rs150-200 per kilogram, while apricot is available at Rs200 per kilogram.

Meanwhile, the prices of tomato, potato and onion have also been increased by Rs5 to Rs10 per kilogram during the holy month of Ramadan.
