Cologne police pull 20 metric tonnes of carrots off the road

On the Wednesday before last (May 24th), near Bensberg, the police pulled over a truck with a deliberately manipulated brake system on the federal highway 4 (Bundesautobahn 4). Officials of the police in Cologne noticed the truck which was loaded with 20 metric tonnes of carrots as it was speeding on the highway.

As well as violations due to unobserved resting periods, and for having driven at up to 110 km/h, the inspection revealed considerable technical deficiencies. The specialists found that a brake disk was torn. The braking system of the trailer was developed on two axles and disconnected at the third.

In order for an expert to further investigate, the officials secured the vehicle and drove it to TÜV Rheinland. Only once it has been repaired will the truck be allowed to travel on German roads again. What happened to the carrots is unclear.
