Northern Territory, AU encouraging horticulture development in red centre

The Northern Territory Government has released a prospectus for potential horticultural investment in Central Australia. The document is designed to provide investors with comprehensive information to try and convince them to set up shop in the red centre.

It has information about roads, telecommunications, soil and water, and shows the potential to grow leeks, nuts, stone fruit, citrus, avocados and more.

Sarah Tsai, research horticulturalist with the NT Government, explained, "Whenever people think about [the] Northern Territory all they think about is mangoes, but we have the cold in the winter, so we can look into crops that need the chill factor, like table grapes or stone fruits, even nuts," she said.

"Those are the industries we would like to encourage and look into, and we just haven't had anybody uncover the opportunities yet."
