"This year, the production season of Hainan sweet potatoes started in April, and will continue until the end of September. After that, the production season of Shandong sweet potatoes will start in October, and will continue until March next year. This year's production volume of Hainan sweet potatoes has grown by around 20%. This is mainly because of higher yields and a larger production area," according to Mr. Wang Pingyuan from Wanhong.

"Due to a favourable climate and improvements in the production technology this season, the quality of Hainan sweet potatoes is rather high. The production volume is higher than last year, and the market price is also unusually high. It is estimated that later, when large quantities of the northern sweet potatoes enter the market, the price of Hainan sweet potatoes will drop."

"The production sites of the purple sweet potatoes, whom we cooperate with, are located in Hainan. They hold 300 hectares (3000 mu). The annual production volume is around 7000 tons. 80% of the potatoes are exported to Europe, Canada and Thailand through the port of Qingdao. The other 20% are mainly sold through e-commerce to supermarkets and wholesale markets in first and second tier cities in China. Because the quality and taste of Hainan sweet potatoes is rather good, the supply is stable. The export volume appears to be rising with each passing year, but the export price is holding steady."Wang Pingyuan
