Bulgaria: Collapse in tomato, cherry and potato prices
Wholesale prices in Bulgaria fell by 1.77% last week, with the main contribution to this being the seasonal fall recorded by the main fruits and vegetables for fresh consumption.
Bulgarian greenhouse tomatoes have become 17.5% cheaper and are sold for 2.07 Lev* per kilo, while imports cost 1.60 Lev per kilo, which is 10.1% cheaper than in the previous week.
In the case of cucumbers, there has been a 1.1% drop in prices for the domestic product, which now costs an average of 1.60 Lev per kilo, while imports stand at 1.35 Lev/kg.
As for cherries, the decline has been record-breaking in the case of the domestic production. A kilo of the red fruit has become 42% cheaper, falling to a wholesale price of 3.83 Lev per kilo. Meanwhile, the price of fresh potatoes has fallen by 21.5%, down to 1.15 Lev per kilo.
Also, carrots are sold for 1.06 Lev per kilo, and cabbage is now 6.3% cheaper and traders buy it for 0.74 Lev/kg on the wholesale market.
