Driscoll’s surprises consumers with French raspberries

Berry company Driscoll’s gave the French raspberry season a kick-start with their Driscoll Maravilla variety. This high performing berry is known for its flavour, large fruit size and bright colour. Until the end of November, Driscoll Maravilla will be grown in the French region La Breille-les-Pins, where the mild climate and growing expertise of local farmers are resulting in fruit with good size fruit of equal quality.

"The French market is driven by age-old traditions that are part of their food-loving culture. Many French still remember their childhood memories of picking raspberries in the fields during vacations. These moments are today reflected by the consumer’s choice for pure, flavourful fruits," Driscoll's stated in a press release.

Third generation Driscoll’s grower Rodolphe Guepratte has made a deliberate decision to work together with the berry company. His family started to produce strawberries in the region of Normandy, just after World War II. When their interest for raspberries grew, they searched for a high performing berry variety that represented the French culture, which turned them to the Maravilla variety.
