Bulgaria: Considerable fall of fruit and veg prices last week
Last week was marked by a decline in fresh fruit and vegetable prices in Bulgaria, as announced by the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Markets.
The most significant drops in prices were recorded by turnips, down 17.2% to 0.48 Lev*/kg, and fresh potatoes, which fell by 14.2%, down to 1.45 Lev/kg.
As for tomatoes, in the past week, imported tomatoes have been sold at an average of 1.83 Lev per kilo, or 12% cheaper. Meanwhile, Bulgarian greenhouse tomatoes have been offered for 2.54 Lev per kilo, which is 7.3% less than in the previous week.
Also, imported greenhouse cucumbers are 11% cheaper, down to 1.25 Lev/kg, and the domestic production costs 1.80 Lev/kg, 4.3% down.
There has also been a drop in lettuce prices, which were traded on Friday at a price of 0.44 Lev per piece. Cabbage has also become cheaper and its price amounts to 0.83 Lev/kg.
Lastly, Bulgarian strawberry prices fell by 7.3% over the past week, down to 4.59 Lev/kg, while imported strawberries were also down and cost about 3.25 Lev per kilo.
