Maturing bushes boost China's blueberry production

"Compared to last year, this year's production volume is higher. This is mainly because more blueberry bushes have entered a phase of higher yield. The spring's snowfall, however, has slowed down the growth of blueberries. Therefore, the production volume is not as high as expected. When looking at the market price, this year's estimated average price will be approximately 30% higher than last year's. Last year, at the beginning of the season, and later when the majority hit the market, the prices were respectively 100 yuan/500g and 60 yuan/500g (€15 and €9 respectively). This year's price is estimated to be around 70 yuan/500g and 40-50 yuan/500g (€10 to €7 respectively)."

"Our blueberry production is located on the Dingjun mountain in Mian county, city of Hanzhong in Shaanxi province. We mainly produce north, south and rabbiteye blueberries. Our production surface is around 120 hectares (1200 mu). We distribute all our blueberries under three registered brands to the markets of several domestic cities through traditional consumer channels and through e-commerce. When looking at breeding, we cooperate year round with organizations, such as Shaanxi University of Technology, Shaanxi Agriculture and Forestry University, the Dalian Blueberry Research facility, and Shaanxi Fruit Industry Admministration, and have developed three series of 16 varieties of blueberries that are suitable to be produced in Shaanxi."
