Myanmar Development Bank considering loans for fruit producers

The Myanmar Agricultural Development Bank is considering giving out loans for fruit producers, said Kyaw Win, minister for planning and finance.

Fruit production is declining, save for watermelon and cucumber, according to Soe Than Min Din, chairman of the Fruit, Flower and Vegetable Producer and Exporter Association.

The decline is due to climate change, expensive production materials and insufficient capital, he explained.

The prices of some pesticides and chemical fertilisers are two or three times pricier than those in regional countries. The domestic market is also hurt by imported fruits, said Soe Than Min Din.
