Swazi farmers earn $4m from supplying major retailers

As of December 2016, local farmers pocketed over E56 million from supplying large supermarkets or retailers with fruits and vegetables. These include but not limited to Pick n Pay, Spar and Shoprite.

This was disclosed by National Agricultural Marketing Board (NAMBoard) Chief Executive Officer Siphephiso Dlamini during an interview at the sidelines of the Lundzi market led climate smart fruit and vegetable field day held at Lundzi last Friday.

Dlamini said the monetary value of supplies cash by farmers has increased from E13 million in 2013 to edge at E56 million as at the end of last year.

He thanked retailers for heeding to NAMoard’s appeal to increase their local supply uptake of fruits and vegetables supplies.
