Spain: Guardia Civil takes samples from Orri farm

The Guardia Civil Nature Protection Service has taken vegetable samples from a farm in the municipal district of Cartaya, Huelva, denounced for the illegal exploitation of Orri mandarins by The Enforcement Organization, S.L. (TEO); exclusive licensee of this protected plant variety in Spain.

TEO is working intensely in the defence and control of the Orri protected variety, having already reported more than 50 illegal plantations; that is, more than 50,000 illegal trees.

This is due to the fact that the exploitation, planting, multiplication or reproduction of plants, trees or plant material of the Orri plant variety can only be carried out with the authorization and license of whoever has the exclusive rights over the variety (in Spain, TEO). Any such activity that has not been previously authorised is consequently illegal.

TEO has informed that it will continue carrying out the pertinent enforcement tasks for the adequate defence and control of the variety. TEO has recalled that illegal plantations that were not legalised during the public and open regularisation process that started in 2015 and ended in April 2016, can no longer be regularised, and that, therefore, legal action will be taken against any and all illegal plantations of the Orri variety that are not licensed.

For its part, the Orri Running Committee (ORC), whose purpose is the promotion, defence and control of the Orri plant variety, is actively involved in backing the legal actions for the benefit of all its associates.
