Warehouse manager Zozk Shafik: “Remotely monitoring process thanks to software”

Blow-labeller limits ERP failures to a minimum

Europe Retail Packing (ERP) offers optimal facilities for the storage, transfer and packing of fresh produce, and has locations in Poeldijk, Barendrecht and De Meern. When ERP started having to deal with too many failures at the older production lines, they began orienting themselves to replace existing equipment. The labelling mechanisms often had to be replaced in the older top-labellers, shutting down production regularly. Considering that within the industry, you’re judged by the numbers of pieces, optimisation of production processes is a very important issue within the company's production. Bizerba’s solution consists of a blow-labeller, so that the number of failures is limited.

Ease of use
The number of workers totals more than 250 employees, three-quarters of whom are flexible staff. The team is multicultural, and several languages are spoken. ERP has a very wide assortment and offers a number of different services, so that flexibility and being able to quickly switch are essential. The GLM-I series of Bizerba is easy to operate, especially compared to the machines of a competitor that were used before this. Multiple employees are now capable of setting up the new machine when a new production run starts. This production leaders’ task can therefore be easily transferred when they’re absent, leading to a major savings on overtime.

Quality comes first
ERP thinks quality levels should come first, and is therefore BRC, IFS, QS and SKAL certified. During the considerations and comparisons with other suppliers, they chose to purchase Bizerba, knowing that the initial investment would be higher compared to other suppliers. “Considering the GLM-I series of Bizerba can easily reach the required speeds in production, finishing of equipment is extremely robust, and ERP realised that an optimum process would lead to cost saving, we deliberately chose Bizerba. After some years of experience with Bizerba’s GLM-I, we’ve reached the conclusion that Bizerba’s GLM-I-maxx 150 is the Rolls Royce of weighing and labelling systems,” says Warehouse Manager Zozk Shafik from ERP.

Less waste
By coupling the machines in the line to Bizerba BRAIN industry software, ERP has an overview and the ability to remotely monitor the process. BRAIN DataMaintenance is Bizerba’s data maintenance packet, which makes keeping article data up to date child’s play. “Texts can simply be imported from Word or Excel, barcode structures can be designed according to the latest regulations and specific machine data can be kept up to date remotely. Combined with the BRAIN Label Designer, lay-outs with the logos coupled to them can be sent to the machines. Preprinting of labels is therefore no longer necessary. Changes make it possible to interrupt the total production run without losing any prepared labels. The increased flexibility has resulted in a decrease of waste,” Zozk says.

When asked if ERP would recommend Bizerba on a scale of 1 (bad) to 10 (excellent) to other fresh produce service providers, Zozk answers: “We generally don’t really give out tens, but Bizerba would definitely get an 8 or 9. From localising initial demand to tender, they looked for a custom-made solution to problems within ERP, and we are very satisfied. We also had a good click with the account manager and service technicians who flawlessly guided us through our strict planning during a calm period, so that none of the new lines led to production stops. And finally, we have nothing but praise for the two-day training for management and staff to be able of optimally using the applications.”
