7% increase of Uzbeki fruit and veg exports
In the first 3 months of 2017, Uzbekistan exported 101.8 thousand tonnes of fruits and vegetables, as reported to Sputnik by the foreign trade company Uzagroexport.
Compared with the same period last year, there has been a 7% increase; that is 6.7 thousand tonnes more. The company stressed that the main shipments were made in the framework of the export contracts signed during the first International fruit and vegetable fair held last year in Tashkent, as well as in events held in Berlin, Moscow, Kiev, and Astana, in Kazakhstan.
Contracts were signed for the purchase of more than 1.5 million tonnes of fruits, vegetables, potatoes, melons and grapes. In turn, the collection and delivery of these products are carried out by trade and logistics centres, which have been set up in regions of the republic. These specialise in the storage, processing and export of fruits and vegetables. To date, such centres operate mostly in the regions of Andijan, Namangan and Ferghana.
"The country has set the goal of increasing its volume of fresh and processed fruit and vegetable exports, which currently go mostly to Russia." Moreover, the production of other agricultural products is gradually increasing, and in order to boost the production and export of food products until 2020, 180 investment projects worth $596 million have been planned," stated the company.
