Fortuna strawberries, from the area of Palos de la Frontera, are characterised by being one of the most popular in the market, both nationally and internationally. "We don't know for sure why, but due to the composition of the soil, the quality and consistency of our strawberries are the best," affirms Jorge Ruiz Bernal.
The production of this Huelva-based company is significant. "We ship about 5 to 10 trucks a day, depending on the time of the campaign," states Ruiz Bernal. At the moment, 70% of the strawberries of the Fortuna variety are exported to practically all of Europe and, of that amount, 5% is shipped to the United States. "For us it is easier to sell them in Europe because the distribution channels and logistics are already in place," explains Ruiz Bernal.
"We cannot say what the prices are, because they change every day, but they range between 1 and 8 Euro per kilo. What we can say is that, if you take a look at the stores in other countries, the price of the fruit is three times higher; that's why we are interested in exporting," adds Ruiz Bernal.
