Despite being a young market, Ukraine is showing a lot of potential in blueberry production.
Founded in 2010, Betec LLC has quickly grown into the largest producer in Ukraine, as well as one of the largest in Europe. Currently producing blueberries on 325 ha, the company has plans to continue expansion to meet market development and growing demand.
"We export mainly to the EU and the UK, but we would like to be open for all markets and that is why we are planning to expand our production season as much as we can. Out of the 325 ha we have planted, 180 ha are bearing blueberry bushes, with blueberry varieties such as Duke, Bluegold, Bluecrop, Chandler, Liberty, Elliott and Aurora. Growing the different blueberry varieties allows us to prolong the harvest period from the end of June until the beginning of October." said Andrii Borysenko from Betec.
The company has created its own brand of packaged fresh berries under the name 'Our Berry', to help develop and promote the domestic blueberry market. The berries are typically packed in clamshells and punnets with a lid.
