Christiaan van Ravenswaaij: “Social certification becoming increasingly important”

“Good market for mangoes from Ivory Coast”

The Ivory Coast mango season started with the first air freight mangoes last month for Van Ravenwaaij, and this week, the first boats with Kent mangoes will arrive from Ivory Coast. “The market is still empty. Quality of the mangoes is good, and is only going to get better. This week, prices are at a good level between 7.50 and 9 euro,” says Christiaan van Ravenswaaij.

At the same time as the sea freight, mangoes will frequently arrive by air as well in the coming weeks. “In weeks 18 and 19, the volume of boat mangoes will be at regular levels, but in weeks 20 and 21, the supply will start decreasing again. The Ivory Coast season will then be nearing its end, and other Western African countries will start,” Christiaan says.

According to the importer, the mangoes from Ivory Coast are distinctive because hardly any pesticides are used. “This results in a natural product with a good flavour, especially for the Kent variety.” Van Ravenswaaij primarily sells the mangoes on the Dutch and German markets. “We feel very confident about the rest of the season.”
