Bill 488 was approved in its first debate. The bill establishes contract 36-2017, which was signed between the State and the company Banapiña de Panama SA, a subsidiary of the transnational fruit company Del Monte, for the reactivation of banana cultivation in Baru, Chiriqui.
The Minister of the presidency, Alvaro Aleman, stated that the revival of this business in Baru, through the Banapiña de Panama SA company, would generate about 3,100 direct jobs and 12,000 indirect jobs in trade and services.
