China: Myanmar Watermelon receives GAP approval

In recent days, a Ruili company that is located at a watermelon cultivation base in Myanmar, received the Chinese Excellent Agriculture Standard approval certificate, also known as GAP. The approval extends to 414 hectares of surface, making it the first time that a Southeast Asian country has received this approval. The GAP certificate is mainly directed towards primary production of agricultural products. It promotes the diminished use of pesticides and chemical products and guarantees that the production is safe. As the agricultural cross-border cooperation and trade between China and Myanmar increase, it leads to a further outwards spread of Chinese fruit trading shops. The watermelons cultivated in Myanmar are eventually sold on the Chinese market.
