China: Yinchuan harbour's first encounter with African mango flies

A few days ago, the Yinchuan airport Inspection and Quarantine Bureau intercepted contaminated mangoes from a tourist. The mangoes were contaminated with a destructive organism that requires urgent quarantine - African mango flies. It is the first time that the harbour has encountered this type of harmful organism. Reports say that the traveller was a Chinese person working overseas. When he crossed the border at Yinchuan on a flight from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, he was carrying 5.6 kg of mangoes with him. Investigations showed that the mangoes were cultivated in Tanzania and were directly picked from a tree by the man himself. Further investigation pointed out that there were 8 harmful flies present in the mangoes and that they belonged to the African mango flies, which are extremely harmful for the Chinese ecosystem.
