Significant increase of Belarussian horticultural exports to Russia
In the first quarter of 2017, Russia's western neighbour significantly increased its exports of fruit and vegetables, reports Sergei Dankvert, head of the Rosselkhoznadzor.
Since the beginning of January, up to the end of March, the Belarussian export of potatoes and carrots to the Russian market has doubled compared with the same period last year. Meanwhile, cabbage shipments have tripled and onion exports have increased by up to fifteen times.
For his part, the Russian Deputy Minister of Agriculture Jamal Chautow does not hide the concern that these deliveries may actually be re-exported goods produced in other countries.
The Russian control authorities have long detected the huge differences between the volume of agricultural products imported from Belarus and the food that is actually produced there. For example, in 2015, five times more apples were exported from Belarus to Russia than from other countries.
