Jan Rozema, Olympic Fruit:

“Grape market recovers somewhat after tough weeks”

In recent weeks, large volumes of grapes arrived in Europe. The market is still under pressure, but importer Jan Rozema from Olympic Fruit also sees some rays of hope. “For example, the market for blue seeded grapes and red seedless grapes is recovering by now. The spring weather and imminent Easter traditionally ensure a bit more demand.”

“India sent large volumes in recent weeks, and that market is still not clean. Temperatures there have increased, so that the amounts for shipment have decreased, and some Indian exporters are even dropping out. Additionally, there are many Chilean grapes, so that the white seedless market has become under considerable pressure,” Jan says. “This results in prices of 6.50-8.50 euro for white seedless in punnets, and 5-7 euro for loose grapes. Red seedless are selling at 11-12 euro for punnets and 7.50-8.50 for loose grapes.”

“The market for red seedless grapes is now recovering somewhat, after considerable volumes arrived. South Africa has practically finished loading from the Hex-River region, so we are expecting fewer red grapes to come this way,” Jan concludes.
