China: The coming blueberry season in Qingdao

"The local blueberries will be available on the market around the 25th of April and the supply will last till the end of July. Compared to last year, the production volume will be stable, so there won't be big fluctuations in market prices this year," said Ms. Jie Zheng from Chunmanyuan Cooperative in Qingdao, China.

"A few years ago, many farmers and plantations extended their blueberry growing area, driven by the high profits involved. That resulted in the steady fall of blueberry prices. This year, the total production area and volume are relatively stable, so the market prices are expected to be level with the prices from last year."

"Our eco blueberry plantation has a production volume of 30 to 40 tons. Apart from supplying supermarkets and wholesale markets, in first and second tier cities around the region, we will sell our products this year via e-commerce platforms and boutique stores. Currently, online sales are only 20% of the total, but I do believe that this new channel can help us reach more consumers. In the future, we hope to work with more e-commerce platforms and increase our total sales with the help of the Internet."
