China: California early ripening peaches will soon enter the market

"The California early ripening peach is a new variety with an average weight of 150 grams. The color of the fruit is bright red at the early stage of ripening and darkens to fuchsia later. This variety even gets red when growing in a hidden spot covered by branches. The flesh of the fruit is pale but has red stripes once completely ripe. Containing 12 to 14.5% sugar, this variety is crispy and sweet. The texture is quite firm and it can be stored for up to 10 days at room temperature, once harvested, and is easy to transport. It ripens in the middle of May, much earlier than most of the other varieties," said Mr. He, manager of the Zhuoye Xiangnong Early Ripening Peach Cooperative in Daying County. 

The Zhuoye Xiangnong Early Ripening Peach Cooperative is located in Daying County of Suining City in Sichuan Province. This new variety is not widely planted in the area, and as its ripening period differs from peaches from the other production regions, they have great market potential because they can enter the market when the overall supply is low and thus enjoy a price advantage. The plantation is quite new, with fertile soil, and it produces quality peaches available at relatively low prices. Popular in the region covering Hunan, Hubei, Chongqing, Chengdu and Yunnan, the peaches from here have a distinct market advantage.
