Moldova: Exports to EU and CIS countries on the rise
Moldovan exports to European and CIS countries rose in January-February 2017 compared to the same period last year. Exports to the Russian Federation, Lithuania, Cyprus and the UK have increased significantly, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
Exports of goods to EU countries totalled 209.3 million US dollars; 24.7% more than in the same period last year, accounting for a share of 66.2% of the total shipments. Meanwhile, CIS countries received 19.3% of Moldova's exports, which were worth 61.1 million US dollars. Exports to these countries increased by 26.5%.
The analysis by countries in January-February 2017 compared to the same period of 2016 reveals increases in the volume of exports to Romania, the Russian Federation, Turkey, Spain, Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, Cyprus and Lithuania, among other countries.
At the same time, there were drops in the volumes shipped to Iraq, Belarus, France, Syria, Indonesia, Poland and the Czech Republic.
In January-February 2017, compared to the same period in 2016, there were marked increases in the exports of oilseeds, vegetables and fruits, vegetable fats and oils, electrical machinery and cereals and preparations of cereals, among other products from other sectors.
According to the NBS, in these two months, exports of goods totalled 316.2 million USD, which is 23.9% more than in the corresponding period of 2016.
