"Serbia: "We export 80% of the production of grafted fruit trees"

Since 1990, Serbia, together with the rest of countries of the former Yugoslavia, has been a leader in the production of grafted fruit crops in Europe; nevertheless, the volume after the country's break-up has fallen from 45 million units to 10 million in recent years.

"Thanks to this system, we can offer virus-free fruit trees, as well as grafted rootstocks and grapes, which are our main products," states Aleksandar Jovanovic. Nowadays, "we lead the market thanks to our use of the latest technologies," comments the representative of Abb Trstenik. Thus, only 20% of the production of these modified fruit trees remains in the country.

"Every year, our production expands and our technology is updated," says Jovanovic. In any case, it should be noted that the season to sell these grafted trees in Serbia only runs from October to April, and for large plantations, the orders are only filled on request.
