62 Romanian crops awarded with Global G.A.P. certification
In 2017, a total of 62 Romanian fruit and vegetable crops have been awarded with the international quality certification for Good Agricultural Practices GLOBAL G.A.P., following a national program launched by Kaufland Romania to aid in the development of local producers. The list of Romanian crops whose quality will be internationally recognised this year includes potatoes, onions, aubergines, tomatoes, cucumbers, cabbage, beetroot, parsnips, carrots, peppers, lettuce, spinach, mushrooms, radishes, black and yellow watermelons, celery, cauliflower, peas, apples, pears, plums, strawberries, raspberries, cherries, peaches and apricots.
All these certified products will gradually become available on Kaufland Romania's shelves. The first batches will arrive in May 2017, with the cherry and strawberry harvest.
The crops will be supplied by 18 Romanian producers who have completed the program developed by Kaufland Romania, in partnership with specialised consultants, in the period from January to March 2017. These growers have benefited from educational workshops, applied activities for field analysis and customised development plans. All 18 producers have received financial support from Kaufland Romania in order to become certified.
Currently, in Romania there are only 80 producers holding GLOBAL G.A.P individual certifications and with Kaufland's scheme this number will increase by over 20%. Worldwide, over 160,000 farms in 124 countries have certifications, 60% of them in Europe.
