Spain: Opportunities for Platano de Canarias in Morocco

Asprocan representatives have recently visited Casablanca to see first hand the opportunities for exporting Platano de Canarias bananas to Morocco.

On this trip, organized in collaboration with the Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade (ICEX), the Canarian delegation held meetings with the main Moroccan fruit and vegetable distribution and ripening companies that were interested in introducing the Platano de Canarias to that country.

During these meetings, the representatives of the producers from the Canaries had the opportunity to see first hand the product offered by the Moroccan market, a market that has its own banana production, but that doesn't have a sufficient amount to meet their own demand, Asprocan stated.

Morocco currently imports about 20 million kilos of bananas from different origins each year, so Asprocan is studying the feasibility of contributing part of that volume.

To this end, the Commission of Foreign Trade of the organization, supported by the technical team, aims to promote the diversification of the sale of the Platano de Canarias outside the Spanish market to other European and North African countries, such as Morocco or Tunisia, to balance the domestic market.

Asprocan aims to launch a simple but effective strategy in their search of new markets, while strengthening the main market of the Platano de Canarias by involving and committing all producer organizations.
