Italy: Pear stocks in mid-March 2017

Pear stocks in mid-March 2017 differ greatly depending on the varieties.

While Abate pear stocks are more or less in line with 2016 (-5%), those of other cultivars are definitely lower.

Such is the case with the Kaiser, in which European consumers are becoming less interested year after year. Stocks in mid-March are 57% lower than 2016. The fruit will be available until late April.

Stocks of the Decana variety are 82% lower than 2016. The commercialisation of grades 75+ is almost over, and quotations were rather good.

Stocks of Conference pears are 43% lower than in 2016 and sales are increasing.

Sales of Abate pears are regular with stable prices and good demand for all grades, although the bigger ones (75+) are always more popular. The commercialisation is supported by good quality and shelf-life and will continue until mid-April for exports and late April on the domestic market.
