Zambia: Government looks to diversify ag sector

Zambia is this year expected to record a good crop yield following favorable rains during the 2016-2017 farming season.

Minister of Agriculture Dora Siliya says Zambians should not panic as the country is food secure.

Ms. Siliya also stated that the government has given the Food Reserve Agency -(FRA)- the mandate to buy a variety of agriculture produce to promote diversification in the agriculture sector.

She says the agricultural Sector has the potential to support the country’s economy if crop diversification is supported.

Ms. Siliya says the government is pleased that for the first time the country has exported Bananas to South Africa, a development showing the progress in crop diversification.
