Armenia: Sharp increase in most fruit prices except bananas
Over the past 12 months, fruits and vegetables in Armenia have become approximately 20% more expensive, as revealed in a report of the National Statistical Service on consumer prices in Armenia in February 2017.
In February 2017, vegetable prices grew by 20.1% compared to the same month in 2016, but they fell by 5.6% compared to the previous month. Meanwhile, fruit prices have increased by 20.8% over the past 12 months, although they have fallen by 1.3% compared to January 2017.
Apples have become almost 60% more expensive; pears are up by almost 30%, grapes by almost 25%, walnuts by 35% and kakis by 10% or more. One of the few exceptions is bananas, whose price has fallen by more than 20%. Also, other fruits have recorded only small changes, including oranges, which have only become 3.4% more expensive, mandarins, up by 0.3%, and lemons, whose price has fallen by about 10%.
As for vegetables, one of the most noteworthy cases is that of cauliflower, whose price has increased by 2.8 times.
