Peru: Fresh fruit exports increased by 13.6% in January

According to the Association of Agricultural Producers Unions from Peru (AGAP), Peruvian exports of fresh fruit grew by 13.6% in January 2017 and the US was one of the most dynamic markets.

Grape exports increased by 28.2% in January this year, as exports to the US market almost doubled, they said.

The United States is the main market for this product, followed by Hong Kong, which had a 7.8% increase in the FOB value. 

According to Agap, the export value of bananas, citrus, figs, and Brazilian nut exports also increased. 

Vegetables
Meanwhile, exports of fresh vegetables in January 2017 increased by 2.9% in volume when compared to the same period of 2016, although exports in the FOB value of these products decreased by 4.2%.

This is because there was a higher volume of shipment's of the country's main export vegetable, asparagus, to its main target market, the United States, but at a lower average price. 

Exports of coffee beans increased by 45.9% in FOB value and 48.8% in net weight; the main destinations were United States, Germany, and Belgium. 

The volume of cocoa exports increased by 13.9%, but decreased in value by 10.7%, according to Agap.
