Affordable solution to cross-pollination found for Clemcotts

Due to the need to prevent the germination of seeds in Clemcott mandarins, the Protected Varieties Club (CVVP), which manages the variety's production and multiplication rights, has found a solution for its producers to eliminate cross-pollination in a natural way, without the use of pesticides, thanks to the anti-insect meshes from Condepols and the machinery from Saflowers.

The required investment is very low, considering that the meshes have a life of 10 years. Saflowers' machinery easily and quickly sets up the meshes on the orange plantations at between 4 and 5 kilometres per hour.

In addition to protecting the flowers from pollination, it can also save the fruit from the impact of hail, as well as other pests, such as the Mediterranean fruit fly or thrips.

"These meshes can be used with other fruit crops. The details are what make the difference in premium quality products and allow growers to get more interesting prices for their production," explains Juan Antonio Sagarra, manager of Saflowers.
