Ronald Witvoet, GKS Packaging:

“Seventy per cent more capacity with new UP 350 Servo”

Kronen is a global dealer of GKS in the fresh produce branch for processed vegetables. In the Benelux, Foodlife is the dealer of GKS in the branch of processed vegetables. All other branches, unprocessed fresh produce as well, are directly serviced by GKS. “The development, production and construction of the machines takes place in-house. Because of this, demand for customer-specific solutions can also be met. Moreover, GKS can supply complete lines. A complete line could consists of, for example, a lifting belt, weighing/dosage system, vertical shaping, filling and sealing machine, thermo-transfer printer, labeling machine, conveyance belt and turntable,” says Roland Witvoet.

New building
“The success of GKS Packaging in recent years has led to our previous building in Son becoming too small for efficient management. After a search in the surrounding area, we purchased a new company building, located on the Steenoven 18 in Eindhoven. The new building consists of a production hall that is more than 2.5 times bigger than the entire previous building,” Roland says. “Next to this hall is an office space with offices on three floors. The building guarantees plenty of growth opportunities to take a further step in the direction chosen. By now, we have moved, and soon more will be announced regarding the official opening of our new building.”

UP 500 and UP 350 Servo
“At the start of 2017, the UP 500 (successor of the UP 450) was introduced. The UP 500 has a large reach in packaging sizes. The bag widths can vary from 200 mm to 500 mm, and has an unlimited bag length. This machine is obviously made from RVS, and is built according to GKS’s, by now well-know, modular concept. After the introduction, four of these machines have already been installed for various customers. At the Empack in Den Bosch, we will show our new, completely servo-driven vertical shaping, filling and sealing machine of the type UP 350 as a novelty. This servo-driven machine is an expansion on the already existing CP and UP series.”

“The current CP and UP machines are provided with a servo-drive on just the film drive. The new UP 350 Servo has servo-drive on both the film drive and the sealing jaws. With this, a capacity improvement of about 70 per cent has been realised. The standard UP 350 has a capacity of 40 packagings per minute, the UP 350 Servo has a capacity of 70 packagings per minute,” Roland continues.

QC sealing system
“Recently, the new QC sealing system was also introduced. With this sealing system it is possible to have a wide range of packing materials, including LDPE, PP and laminates, processed by the same machine. By exchanging the sealing profiles, the right seal can be chosen for each type of film. Readjusting from one to the other type of film can be done within a few minutes without the use of tools. This makes the machine flexibly employable and easy to use. The QC sealing system is optionally available with the CP and UP machines, and can also be applied to existing machines as an upgrade.”

GKS Packaging is exhibitor at Empack 2017 in ’s Hertogenbosch (5 and 6 April, stand number e100).
