Growing fruit and veg production in Turkey
The Turkish Statistical Office has published the latest data on last year's fruit and vegetable harvest in Turkey, which reveal that the vegetable production grew by 2.4 percent compared to 2015, while fruits recorded a 6.8 percent growth, reports FAMMU/FAPA.
The December statistics show that the vegetable production reached 30.3 million tonnes (exactly 30 million 267 thousand tonnes), compared to 29.6 million tonnes a year earlier, while the fruit production stood at 19 million tonnes (18 million 972 thousand tonnes), compared to 17.8 million tonnes in 2015.
In the case of vegetables, the most notable increase in the harvest volume was achieved by onions, with about 12 percent, and aubergines, with more than 6 percent. For fruits, the most noteworthy increases were achieved by mandarins, with 15.6 percent, and apples, with 13.9 percent. Meanwhile, melons recorded a 7.8 percent growth.
