Pakistan border causing trouble for fruit & veg exports

The Pakistan-Afghan border at Torkham remained closed for the sixth consecutive day, causing big losses in trade, halting shipments and causing some fruit & veg shipments to be stuck in transit.

After the terrorist attack at the Shrine of Sufi saint Lal Shahbaz Qalandar in Sehwan of Sind province on last Friday night, the the Pakistan-Afghan border at Torkham was closed.

An official of the customs department told this scribe that due to the closure of the Torkham border the Afghan transit trade has also been suspended which was causing a loss to both country's transporters and traders.

The official also added that there were many trucks at Torkham loaded with fresh fruits and vegetables which has now rotted due to the closure of the border with Afghanistan.
