Ecuador and the Nordic countries strengthen trade relations

Ecuador has strengthened trade relations with the Nordic territories by opening an office of the Institute for the Promotion of Exports and Investments, PRO Ecuador, in Sweden today.

The new office's main mission will be to promote the entry of domestic products in that market and to attract investment under the Multiparty Agreement that was signed in November 2016 between Quito and the European Union and that has been in force since January 1.

The office will also operate as a concurrent trade mission to Denmark, Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, and Finland.

PRO Ecuador will also promote negotiations with the member states of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), which is made up of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland.

To this end, a delegation led by Ministry of Foreign Trade will travel to Geneva next week, where the second round of talks towards a trade agreement with the EFTA is expected to start.

According to the executive director of PRO Ecuador, Silvana Vallejo, the trade agreement with the bloc will complement the Multiparty Agreement.
