The asparagus harvest took place on an area of 3,345 hectares. This is an increase of almost 484 hectares compared to the previous year. Due to the larger cultivation area and the good crop yield of 59 decitonnes per hectare (dt/ha), the highest amount (19,565 metric tonnes) has been harvested since 1991.
For cucumbers, Brandenburg's second most important vegetable, the farmland was reduced by 48 hectares to approximately 500 hectares. The yield was 642 dt/ha, compared to 675 dt/ha the previous year.
Carrots were grown and harvested on 258 hectares. Here, the highest yield since 1991 was achieved with 563 dt/ha. The good weather conditions were key in ensuring this very good harvest.
67 Brandenburg farms produced vegetables in greenhouses covering an area of 47 hectares. A total of 14,867 metric tonnes of vegetables were harvested. This amounts to almost 2,460 metric tonnes more than in the previous year. The main vegetables were tomatoes with 29 hectares and peppers and cucumbers each taking up 6 hectares of farmland.
