China: Kunming lands huge cold chain logistics base

A new international logistics park will be opened near the city of Kunming in Western China. The park will contain a number of cold chain services, and is located near the city's airport, 20 km outside the city centre. Total investment into the project is 2.5 billion Yuan (around 340 million euros). The total project will cover 47 hectares (700 mu), and has an initial cold storage capacity of 100,000 tons. Construction is planned to start in June this year and is expected to be completed by 2018. Kunming is a perishables trade hub in Western China, with large imports of flowers and, increasingly, fresh produce. In addition, the region hosts a large number of local fruit growers.
