Pepper grower expands by 54 Ha

A bell pepper nursery has bought a plot of 54 hectares in Glasparel Zuidplaspolder. The company currently cultivates on 30 hectares, and will start planting the new plot in stages. Construction will start this spring.

Patrick and Peter van den Bosch, owners of Royal Peppers, are currently cultivating at four locations, and partially under illumination. The company from Waddinxveen will be the fifth and largest location. “We can realise our company for the future in Glasparel Zuidplaspolder; we can produce our bell peppers sustainably, organically and safely here, We are looking forward to the future with our team, and to the coming of our new cultivation location.”

Scarcity in the Randstad
The news broke only two months after reports that the rose nursery, Porta Nova, was buying 9.2 hectares in Glasparel Zuidplaspolder. With this new sale, more than 70 per cent of the total area has been sold in one fell swoop, and commercial manager Arnaud van der Eijk from Wayland Developments knows that there is much interest in Glasparel Zuidplaspolder by now. “It is expected that it will not be long before the plots still available are sold.”

Similar land positions are scarce in the Randstad, an urban conglomeration of Western Holland, according to Arnaud. “This is a densely populated area between Gouda, Zoetermeer and Rotterdam. Glasparel Zuidplaspolder has direct access to the A12 an A20. And that in particular makes this location ideal for buyers. Besides optimal logistics, the location is also attractive to staff, because of its central location. Moreover, the area is developed with the future in mind. It has been provided with a special irrigation water solution, and a CO2 network has been provided. Furthermore, the arrival of a large sustainable source of heat within Glasparel and the construction of the heat network by Wayland Energy have been an important condition for the buyers of the 54-hectare plot. In this manner, all conditions for sustainable entrepreneurship have been met, and we provide new buyers with a flying start.”
