Value of Spanish horticultural exports to non-EU countries up 6%
Compared to the same period of 2015, Spanish fresh fruit and vegetable exports to non-EU countries up to November 2016 fell by 8% in volume, totalling 712,893 tonnes, while their value increased by 6% to 829.7 million Euro, according to official data from the Customs Directorate, processed by FEPEX.
Spanish horticultural exports outside the EU accounted for 6.4% of the total shipments, which amounted to 11.1 million tonnes from January to November 2016. The main destination was Brazil, with 94,655 tonnes; 13% less than in the same period of the previous year, worth 104.5 million Euro (+27%).
Also worthy of note were the exports to the United Arab Emirates, with 57,181 tonnes (+3%) and 61.1 million Euro (+ 3%); Saudi Arabia, with 41,948 tonnes (+11%) and 44.4 million Euro (+9%), and Canada, with 37,090 tonnes (-15%) and 104.5 million Euro (+27%).
For FEPEX, it is necessary to continue diversifying with exports to third countries, as despite the growth recorded in recent years, the volumes remain small.
