Peru kicks off Fruit Logistica 2017 on February 8th with the inauguration of their stand. The central theme of its participation is the country’s new brand “Superfoods from Peru.” From now to February 10th, more than 300 exhibitors will present Peruvian fruits and vegetables at the Berlin fair.
In order to position the unique variety of Peruvian superfoods competitively, PROMPERÚ has developed the brand “Superfoods from Peru,” which is currently being presented at Fruit Logistica. The goal is to be able to position healthy Peruvian products internationally and to diversify Peru’s exportation offer. The main focus is the high quality and the product variety.
With 48 different climate zones, Peru is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world. It is likewise home to a large variety of natural products; more than four million species of fruit, vegetables and plants are being used in Peruvian cuisine and medicine since thousands of years, including many so-called “superfoods,” food products with a high nutritional value that are rich in antioxidants, proteins, essential fatty acids, minerals, fiber and other valuable trace elements. Economic factors such as a high exportation capacity, innovation and transparent, sustainable processes strengthen Peru as exportation market.
The range of Peruvian superfoods includes well-known items like avocados, blueberries, broccoli and maca as well as exotic products. Less well-known superfoods from Peru are the vitamin C-laden fruit camu camu; the fiber-bursting cherimoya; the lucuma, a fruit that strengthens the immune system and combats aging; and purple maize, which not only tastes delicious but also strengthens the heart and lowers the blood pressure.
Quinoa, amarant, cañihua, yacón, chestnuts, algarrobina, sacha inchi, gian corn, mangoes, grapes, madarines, sardines, asparagus, pomegranates, cocoa and chocolate complete Peru’s superfood portfolio.
There is huge potential in the market for so-called superfoods. Since 2013, the sale of particularly health and nutritious food products has increased by 65% worldwide. With “Superfoods Peru” Peru wants to meet this trend and make use of it.
The 500-square-meter stand of Peru was ceremoniously inaugurated by Peruvian Minister of Foreign Commerce and Tourism Eduardo Ferreyros Küppers in the presence of the Peruvian ambassador to Germany, Elmar Schialer and the Peruvian delegation. Through Friday, February 10, 2017, visitors to the fair can learn about Peru’s fruit and vegetable offerings in Hall 25, Stand B13.
