China: Border patrol in Xiamen impounds tons of imported fruit

During the Spring Festival, which was held between January 27th and and February 2nd this year, the Xiamen branch of the Chinese Border Control Agency assured the safety of 78 916 passengers travelling on 528 international flights. Additionally, it seized 114 contraband items that were to be smuggled into China, which is a 135% rise compared to the same period last year, with a combined weight of 230 tons, a 35% rise. According to an employee, a majority of the plants and produce to be smuggled into China were fruits brought by tourists from Southeast China and Australia, such as mangoes, avocados etc.
