The US might import more Peruvian citrus

The Commercial Office of Peru (OCEX) based in Miami said the US could increase imports of Peruvian citrus because the US Customs had intercepted a shipment of 105,000 boxes of clementines from Morocco that were affected by the Mediterranean fruit fly.

This is an opportunity for Peruvian citrus entrepreneurs and also an alert to continue conducting responsible phytosanitary practices in the marketing and export of food.

It is important to note that Peru is, with Morocco and Chile, one of the three leading providers of mandarins and clementines for the US market.

According to the United States Department of Agriculture, the Mediterranean fruit fly is the most destructive pest in the world for the agricultural industry.
