Philippine province plans $960,000 agribusiness project

South Cotabato expects to rollout about $960,000 worth of agribusiness enterprises with the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) of the Department of Agriculture this year, an official of the provincial government here reported.

"South Cotabato has already received a No Objection Letter for our proposal 'Enhancement of Production and Marketing of Dried Green Coffee Beans,' meaning the project has been approved and is scheduled for implementation," said Nelson Beltran, head of the Special Projects Unit of the Provincial Planning and Development Office.

He added that besides this project they are also waiting for the green light on USD $257,208 in funds to add to the production and marketing of fresh mango.

South Cotababato provincial government expects the approval by PRDP of the fresh mango soon, Beltran said.

According to the plan presented by the PPDO, the fresh mango project aims to increase the income of local mango growers by 25%, improve productivity from an average of 7 metric tons per hectare to 8 metric tons per hectare and eventually establish South Cotabato as a main venue for mango production in Mindanao.
