Beijing investigates oranges: No sweeteners found so far

In the light of the incident that was recently posted online which reported that the oranges on the market have been injected with sweeteners, the State Food and Drug Administration in Beijing has officially responded:-

Recently a special risk analysis was carried out on all oranges, mandarins and tangerines sold in all shopping centers, markets and specialty stores for fruits and vegetables in Beijing. The results indicate that the samples of citrus fruits investigated so far did not contain any sweeteners, pigments or preservatives that are not in line with the official safety standards. There was an additional investigation on color additions of 35 samples of manually pigmented samples. In only two of the sampled orange peels a very small amount of "Orange pigment No. 2" was detected. However, further screening has proven that all pulp samples were according to standards.
