Tanzania holds Agritech Expo in an attempt to uplift agriculture sector
The event will gather farmers from commercial concerns to emerging and small scale operations, as well as key officials from regional governments; agro associations; non-governmental organizations (NGOs); aid, development and research agencies; agro dealers; traders and retailers; suppliers; consultants and technical experts.
Venture capitalists, investors and bankers are also part of the over two thousand participants expected at the first outdoor, business-to-business (B2B)farming expo of its kind in Tanzania.
Though 75 per cent of Tanzania’s population relies on agriculture for its livelihood, more than six million are living in abject poverty and the sector’s contribution to the GDP is not increasing at the desired pace.
The expo aims to equip stakeholders in the entire agriculture value chain with the necessary knowledge, skills and opportunities to uplift the sector to benefit the population in the countryside and the region as a whole.
“We have an extensive offering, from demonstrations of the latest, innovative technology and farm equipment to crop trials, free interactive training and farmer workshops to professional consultations and loads of networking opportunities. The event promises to be a game changer for the agri sector in Tanzania,” event director Yoland dos Santos said.
