Hungary shows interest in Chilean fruit industry
With the goal of becoming familiar with the work of the Chilean fruit export industry, as well as that of the Association of Fruit Exporters of Chile AG (ASOEX), the vice president of the Young Hungarian Producers Association, Borbála Benedek, met with the general secretary of ASOEX, Enrique Lira. Also present were ASOEX's Assistant Marketing Manager, Ignacio Caballero, and marketing analyst Santiago Contreras.
At the meeting, Ignacio Caballero reported on the reality of the Chilean export industry, highlighting that the sector is the largest supplier in the southern hemisphere of fruits such as table grapes and blueberries, reaching more than 100 destination markets.
It should be noted that during the meeting there were many questions about the way in which the domestic industry has been gaining ground in the destination markets, as well as about the way to get exporters to work together.
Figures
During the past campaign, Europe received a total of 549,235 tonnes of Chilean fresh fruit; an increase of 4.2%. The Netherlands, which is the main port of entry and distribution in the Old Continent, received 41% of all shipments to the European market, followed by the UK (19% of the total) and Russia (10%).
The products with the highest export volumes to Europe were apples (27% of the total), table grapes (20%), avocados (15%), kiwis (12%) and pears (10%).
