Coop-Group increases revenue by 5.1 percent to 28.3 billion Swiss franks

Coop Group sales have risen by 5.1% to CHF 28.3 billion. After taking currency and expenses into account, the increase was 5.2%. Coop gained market shares in the retail market and achieved the previous year's net profit (excluding fuels) in a challenging market environment. Sales and production grew very positively with an increase of 15.2%. 

Retail trade
Net sales in the retail business amounted to CHF 17.2 billion. The Coop supermarkets boosted the customer frequency by a good 2.6% and, with CHF 10.3 billion net profit in a difficult market environment, they reached the previous year's level.

Wholesale/Production
In the wholesale/production division, net sales rose by 15.2% to CHF 12.2 billion. The Transgourmet Group generated net sales of CHF 8.5 billion with the cash-and-carry markets as well as the supply chain. As a result, Transgourmet grew by 14.4% and could further expand its position as the second largest company in the European delivery wholesale. 

Online
The online trade of the Coop Group is also on a growth path. Net revenue amounted to CHF 1.4 billion, representing growth of 14.3%. On the retail side, net sales in the online business rose by 11.3% to CHF 572 million. The online supermarket Coop@home recorded a very good growth of 7.2% and generated a net profit of CHF 129 million. On the wholsesale side, sales in the online business rose by 16.4% to CHF 818 million. 

Home electronics
Coop further expanded its position as market leader in the home electronics sector with almost CHF 2 billion in net sales.

Sustainability
In 2016, sustainability in the retail trade also developed very positively. Sustainability revenues grew by around 7% to CHF 3.5 billion.
