Research shows banana starch may help regulate blood sugar

New research out of Dublin University in Ireland claims that resistant starch, which occurs naturally in foods such as bananas, potatoes, grains and legumes, may offer health benefits such as aiding blood sugar control, supporting gut health and enhancing satiety.

The comprehensive review by researchers from University College Dublin in Ireland, examined the potential health benefits of resistant starch, which is an undigested starch which is treated more like a dietary fiber.

According to the researchers there is consistent evidence that consumption of resistant starch can aid blood sugar control. It has also been suggested that resistant starch can support gut health and enhance satiety via increased production of short chain fatty acids which could decrease weight gain through excessive eating, researchers said.
