Influential German importer passed away

Loss of Karl Dürbeck mourned

After a serious illness Karl Dürbeck, a leading and respected member of the international fruit trade, has died.

After the death of his father in 1954, he took over the family business, Martin Dürbeck Fruchthandel, at the early age of 23. Over the years he transformed the company into one of the most prominent import businesses in Europe. The company, with its headquarters in Bad Homburg, has accomplished enormous growth after the company changed its name to Anton Dürbeck in 1983.

Karl Dürbeck with his keen intellect and his clear and outspoken way of getting his points across, soon became a pillar of the entire sector. He held a wide range of positions such as ZV President, Chairman in the Economic Committee for Foreign Trade Questions, President of the European Professional Representatives C.I.M.O. and EUCOFEL. His expert opinion, for instance on the issue of Europe’s banana import tariff in the 1990s, carried a lot of weight.

For all his efforts Karl Dürbeck was awarded, amongst others, the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
